My First Blog Post

So here is my first blog post. If you have read my profile you know that I am currently working on my MLIS degree. Right now, I am coming into the final weeks, complete with final exams and projects, of my very first semester.

I have much experience with academia, so going to school is not something that's particularly difficult or trying for me. I have been in school for more years of my life than I have been out of school. However, this program is quite a bit different from what I have experienced in studying English--my undergraduate and MA major. I have never had to work with technology as much in any of my educational experiences, so that is a learning experience for me. If I had to judge my progress, I'd say I'm doing fine, but I find that I have to spend quite a bit of time working on computer-based projects, especially when it involves new software that I haven't experience with, etc.

I know that I would ideally like to work in a public library when I am finished with school, but of course will be open any opportunities that come my way. I have an interest in the phenomena of book challenges and am a huge opponent of censorship in almost any manifestation though I acknowledge that that can be a very sticky situation ethically, and I have also found I have an interest in freedom of information and various methods of accessing information. I am currently taking a course that is basically an introduction to cataloging, and I have discovered that I do not want to become a cataloger. I feel as though I am drifting a bit in my career, as I have so much to learn about the field, but it is my hope that as I work through school, make contacts and learn about the interests of my peers and professors that I will find where I belong specifically in this field and where my professional passions lie.
